How much damage can dust do to a computer, can it prevent from full log on, and stall?

i have a computer and it is messed up. It starts to turn on then stops, and goes to a problems area thing. I doesnt sound right when I turn it on, I think it is dust. Please help

Open it and vacuum it out. If the fan makes noise, remove it and spray a little WD40 on the shaft and spin it by hand to work it in. DO NOT do that with the fan still in the computer. WD40 is flammable and you could start a fire. I have lubricated a number of computer fans that way and it breathes new life into them.

It can clog up the motor and gunk can build up,if its not ran very often to get everything moving and circulating.

My old computer was extreamly dusty, and i took it apart and cleaned all the dust. It could be that cause my computer would get too hot and the fan will stop working. Witch made the computer turn off. If you clean it and its not it, try to install some virus protection thing.
