How does warm milk help us get to sleep?

it makes you dream about milk and cookies
i sometimes end up eating up pillow after warm Chocolate chip cookies and a glass of warm milk

It's not so much that it's milk, it's more that the creamy texture mixed with the heat calms the nerves, and when you're calm, your body can sleep easier.

It is a placebo effect. It really has no chemicals that make someone sleep.

Milk is essentially formula. Protein and fats take lots of energy to metabolize. Kind of like when you eat to much and feel like going into a "food coma." As far as heat is concerned, heat speeds up chemical reactions( for the most part) and so could possibly hit you with a double wammy of go to bed syndrome!
