Is running barefoot on snow dangerous?

Yesterday my mom's dog got away from me and I chased her way down the road onto a neighbor's property. I got her back but my feet are still a bit sore. It may also be an issue that it was about 20 degrees outside or less and after dark. Could it have lasting damage?

As long as your toes are warm you should be fine. Running barefoot in the snow can cause frostbite. I realize
this was an emergency so perhaps keep boots by the door in case you have to run out quickly again.
