Hamsters fought and cheek pouch got ripped open? Please any advice?

The mother and her daughter always used to fight but she never did any harm. Today I find blood all over and my hamsters pouch has a massive red, bloody bald patch of skin that looks like a fat scab. She is alive and she is mobile and she doesn't seem to be in pain but she wont eat anything not even her favourite sun flower seeds :( Although she is drinking water from my finger and I cleaner her up, with a antiseptic wipe and a sand bath and I put her in a tempory make shift box cage. What can I do to help her? And why is the mother so aggressive she like gets the hamster on its back and starts like pouncing? Oh and the bleeding stopped.. Please help, thanks :)

I had two dwarf hamsters. Both were male and one bite the others tail/butt and he began bleeding. It stopped bleeding but I took him to the vet anyways. There they will cleanse the wound (they gently applied hydrogen Perixode and with a q tips dabbed it on to the affected area) I would still take the little guy to the vet to make sure he is 100% better since it does worry me he's not eating. Also from now on seperate cages. That's what I did to my hamsters. Good luck!

One word: vet. This happened with my hamster once...(except by rats, EW.(We moved soon after) The rat bit her eye and we immediately took her to the vet, she was fixed up and much better. (:

She is dead now, this happen about 4 years ago. She was a dwarf, soo. Loved her while I had her, though(: You should, too...Not all hamsters are nice, so if you have one that you love, make the best of it! I miss her...R.I.P Boden

1. You should take your hamster to an experienced exotics vet immediately. The cheek pouch may need sutures, and could easily get infected. (Call ahead and make sure the vet is experienced in small animals, because many vets only really deal with dogs and cats full time.)
2. Many typical antiseptics are toxic to hamsters. You should only apply what your vet prescribes. Manuka honey is another good option but should be secondary to prescriptions.
3. The hamsters need separated, permanently. They obviously don't get along anymore and should not share a cage. That's not the fault of bad ownership - falling outs just happen.
4. Get a recommendation from your vet, but your hamster will probably need to stay in a cage with only soft bedding like toilet paper that can easily be changed frequently, so as to avoid infections. Depending on the extent of the injury, you may need to remove the wheel and toys too.

The mother is being territorial and dominant. There will always be a dominant in any group situation, but obviously the mother doesn't want to live with another hamster. Are your hamsters Syrians or dwarfs?
Report as
They are dwarfs and they are about 5 months old, and thank you for the advice too

First that poor hamster needs to go to a vet after that DO NOT put them back in the same cage hamsters are very territorial so they will continue to fight until one is dead even if they are family... Hope This Helped

Go to the pet store u got them from for some advice from the workers, or go see a vet. Most hamsters the same gender usually fight. Never get hamsters that don't know each other. People say hamsters are good at hiding pain so it's hard to tell. You should try to get some help cuz she is obviously not ok.
