Affordable food ideas for a small wedding?

I need at least 3 things to serve. simple but not expensive and something everyone can eat or munch on. I'm on a tight budget!

Definitely go home made...get your bridesmaids to help serve. Nice cheap punch...Melt a package of red hots in about a cup of water, mix with Red Kool-Aid (any flavor, made by the package directions), add a 2 liter of sprite at serving time. Freeze some (without the sprite) in a Jell-o mold or cake ring to float in the punch bowl.

Cheap foods: Vege Platter, Finger sandwiches, and meat balls...Cheese ball with crackers...etc.

Sweets: Pick up some chocolate bark (white is good for weddings), make some sugar cookies dip in the white bark....could do chocolate cookies too for a little contrast.

I saw the cutest thing on a show the other day. They had a long trough with fire down the middle of rocks (I assume sterno cans) and then had sticks, marshmallows, chocolate, etc for people to make their own S'mores. I know it's more of a dessert but I think a s'mores bar would be totally awesome!

I've also seen mashed potato bars, where they scoop them into martini glasses, then people can choose topping such as bacon, chives, cheese, broccoli, etc.

If you get a chance, watch some episodes of 4 weddings on TLC, they have some great creative ideas!

First of all, congrats! I hope you have a lovely wedding (:
Secondly, Im not sure if it would help too much, but I recently saw an episode of Extreme Couponing in which a woman bought large amounts of food for her wedding reception all with coupons. Needless to say, you probably dont have the time to spend hours a day on coupons what with your busy wedding planning, so I'd suggest clipping coupons where you find them and online in order to save money.
I hope this helps a little (:

I managed to only spend $3000 on my wedding. We had the reception at my mothers house. I don't know what your budget on food is but we spent $400 on catering (cocktail foods) for 2 hours... Waitresses included. It was just a local cafe we asked, no headache for me as they made all the food and cleaned up the mess afterwards and the food was delicious... Just an idea.

Congratulations! I am assuming you are asking what to serve besides the wedding cake.

I had a very small wedding and we were on a very very tight budget. We decided to do a sandwich spread. We got a couple of different kinds of bread, a few types of lunch meat, lettuce, tomatoes, cheeses, mayo, and mustard. We set it up so everyone could make their own sandwiches. Then we had macaroni salad and potato salad on he side. We had soda and water in ice in a trough. It was very informal yet very comfortable for everyone. Did not cost much either. Figure out how many people then figure 2 sandwiches, 3 drinks, and a half pound of salad per person. Not everyone will eat that much, but some will eat more. There may be a bit of leftovers, but someone is always willing to take that off your hands.
