The first day of each season is its respective solstice or equinox.
The first day of spring is the spring equinox (day and night are equal amounts of time.) The first day of summer is the summer solstice (longest day and shortest night of the year.) The first day of fall is the fall equinox. And the first day of winter is the winter solstice (shortest day and longest night of the year.)
