Blue_J: Okay!!!
RespectTheTomo:Hedgehogs are illegal to possess in Arizona without a state Wildlife Holding Permit issued by the state Game and Fish authorities. Requirements to obtain a permit are very stringent and lengthily and certain officials handling the permit process have been less than cooperative with applicants. At least one permit has been issued, however, to former Arizona resident Shonda Statini, who is a dedicated hedgehog caretaker and has expressed a willingness to help others get through this process. Unfortunately, Shonda moved out of Arizona several years ago and is no longer able to assist in this endeavor. One requirement is that while the permit process is under way, applicants are expected to surrender their hedgehogs to state authorities. We are not convinced that these officials have the knowledge or ability to care for hedgehogs properly nor to contract with someone who does. Therefore, if applying for a permit, applicants are advised to keep their hedgehogs out of the state of Arizona temporarily during the application process at a location where the hedgehogs will be well cared for. Our rescue in Colorado offers a temporary housing opportunity free of charge for anyone going through this process. Apparently state authorities do not actively "hunt down" persons possessing hedgehogs in Arizona, but do respond to complaints and reports. Among other things, a permit holder is required to provide a detailed description of their hedgehogs and themselves (height, weight, etc.). Officials told me that due to Arizona's climate there is concern that escaped pet hedgehogs could set up a resident wild population in the state.

HI. Buy a box, and put some peanut butter on a small piece of paper within the box. Put a small Dixie cup size bowl of water next to it. Peanut butter makes everything thirsty!! Set the box up 1/2 way with a stick and it will drop over the hedgehog while it's eating the peanut butter. It's harmless to the animal and you. You do know what my next question is going to be right? Why, dear, why in the world would you like to catch a hedgehog?

Why though?

Pest and animal control in your phone book or dial 411. You can also call the human society and ask how to obtain a permit. Call and see about wildlife protection. You could try where people get licenses to hunt. They may know. Those are my suggestions on how to get a permit. Now, why do want to catch one? I'm dying to know!

Am I missing something? Lol

Good Morning witt~! Check your other mail when you get a chance!!!! I'm with you, about the whole smuggling thing.. and either both of us are missing something, or this is a bizarre request. I do think I can help RespectTheTomo still... but, I don't want to help them smuggle something. hmmm. Check your other..Happy! Happy! Hapeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey! GREAT to see you, as always!

O.O can someone come inside a hedgehog o.O

RespetTheTomo~I was under the impression you were just trying to catch it because it was a bother to you... not because you want to bring it into the country. If it has it's shots, and you have the paperwork to prove it does, no smuggling is needed. I am still to believe your thoughts are because you care about this hedgehog and want to keep it. That is all understandable. However, things that grow where you live and thing that grow in Arizona are different. There are different viruses, fleas, ticks, etc. The reason they have rules against this is viruses do not know borders. We don't want t endanger all the hedgehogs that already live in Arizona with a pest yours migh carry. I'm not picking on your hegehog at all! People carry bugs too! I'm saying,it too dangerous to try at this point. I wish you and your hedgehog luck! Have a nice weekend.

Thank you! :)

You're welcome RespectTheTomo. I didn't think about smuggling people in at all. Shoot, anyone can figure out to walk across the the border. Maybe that's the trick. I'm seriously worried about the bugs. I didn't think you were trying to smuggle anything. My husband and I moved to KeyWest for years. We had a dog and she had to go through numerous shots ... just to get her to Florida from LA. I understand why they do it. It was a drag and expensive, but our pooch was worth it. I hope your hedge hog is as well. You sound like a good pet owner. Just remember why they do it. Take Care. On a closing, of all things, my sister used to collect hedgehogs like people collected unicorns! She a funny person. Maybe there is something intriguing in them.. Take Care of you and your hedgehog.
