Can you donate to the u.s. govt. on your tax return? Say a rich guy wants
to send $1 mill. more than he owes, as a donation. Can he do that?

Why would anyone want to throw their money into a bottomless pit, giving to the government is a very bad investment.

I do not think so. I seem to recall someone trying to do that a few years ago, and although I do not remember all the details, I believe the person was thanked, but turned down.

if you file your taxes, the government will either collect or pay out any money owed. If for some reason you want to GIVE the government money, you can overpay on your taxes over the year and not file a tax statement... The government will not audit you if you owe them money, nor would it be tax evasion if you refuse to file and collect money that is rightfully yours...

but why? if you know a rich guy that wants to give away money, let me know and ill send him my contact information.

If you are thinking about doing this, give the million dollars to me instead. I will do a better job then the government, making sure it gets put to good use, ok?

When you do your taxes online..they ask you a few questions about certain charities that gives you a chance to donate money to those charities....
