Is my mom too strict with food?

she only lets me have a diet soda at a party. I can only have ice cream, or candy twice a week and a cookie once a week. my mom makes me eat veggies and fruit with every meal except breakfast, and at breakfast she makes me have a smoothie. she makes the tiniest things count as desserts, like lollipops or Carmel candys. is she too strict? I'm 13 btw

Just be careful, your mom is really trying to save you from harm later in life. My youngest son is adopted, and I snooped into his biological family's issues. He was born to a 25 year old woman who was blind as a consequence of diabetes.

I was wondering the same thing.I was on here for a few myself, and you were the only person to vote on my answers. The reason they changed the format on here was so everybody will leave, and only keep the wet blankets around.

A little bit! She's gotta realize you're a teenager, she can't force you to eat and avoid certain foods. I'd go nuts if I were you. She can't control that, she can't control what you eat when she's not around, and she can't control what you eat when you're older and on your own. I understand she wants you to be healthy, but that's just over controlling and crazy.

I agree with CountryGirl_Pride.....Naaa. Just kidding. It's not a matter of control as much as education. Teaching somebody how they should eat for a proper, well balanced, healthy diet is something that will last for the rest of their life - and for the better. With the obesity epidemic we have in this country, we need more Mom's like this one.

But....I will agree with CountryGirl_Pride next time. Promise.

My mom was the same way with my school lunches. I got one pudding cup on fridays as a treat! But now im 26 years old, have perfect cholesterol levels, blood pressure, etc! The condition your body is in at 18 is going to be the best in your life! Dont mess your health up cause you want junk food!

I would not consume diet anything with artificial sweeteners. She is teaching you basic healthy eating with the one exception. It is tough to take, but overall, it is a good move.

True, I just learned about Spledna having a bunch of chemicals, that are in no way good for your body. I'd rather have a cup of regular soda every once in awhile, instead of drinking that possion regularly.

There are poisons that will take your life with a single bite, and there are poisons that are additives in food that take years to accumulate to a level that will do serious harm. Not all parents monitor as closely as yours do. You are lucky to have an intelligent and caring Mom.

Thank her when you are healthy, don't have a mouth full of cavities, your skin glows and your butt can still fit into last years skinny jeans. She's strict but she has great intentions. Sugar is the worst, addicting.

My parents were very strict about sweets too. (And usually homemade when we had them.) 90% of our dinner plates were vegetables & salad, which we had to eat, no arguments; much of it grown in our garden. (Meat we were allowed to pass on if we didn't want it.) Hated it. Eating this way felt like punishment. esp when I saw the cool junk my friends were allowed to eat. But as I got older I began to really appreciate the habits my parents formed. Without thinking I still eat all the veggies on my plate before anything else & genuinely like them. Their habits have also helped keep me healthier than some others my age, notably a few of those childhood friends. (Diabetes & cancer.) Also, funny thing, many of the veggies you can't stand today you will love tomorrow, as your tastes change.
