Can my Mom take away my computer? She bought it for me in 2008.

I have had it for five years. Is it now legally mine because of how long I had it?

If you are still considered a "Child", then I think it is "Her house, Her rules."

I'm pretty sure she can legally take away anything if you're not an adult yet. Pretty sure, yet not 100% sure.

If you are an adult and she gave it to you as a gift, then you own it from the minute she gives it to you. But if you are underage and living at home, she can take it away.

Even if I am not a adult and she gives it to me, she can take it?

If you are under 18, and living in her house, she can take anything you have away from you, and if she bought it, then your in even deeper, because technically, it's hers then.

Even if you are 18+ years of age, it is still legally her computer, as she has never documented that she 100% turns ownership over to you, if she says she wants it back, or punishes you by taking it away, it is purely her decision, not courts nor the "PoPo's" job. Nobody can tell her to give it back to you.

This means, if she bought you a computer for XMas(Trying not to bring religion into this), she can still take it away, as she purchased it.(Sorry for spoiling if you still believe in Santa)

If she is the one who purchased the computer she is the owner of the computer. Especially if you are a minor.

If you are under age and live in her house she can do as she pleases. When you get a job, pay your own bills and buy your own computer with internet then yes, it's yours.

When you're 18, living on your own then you can OWN stuff! In the mean time not so much. Your mom provides you with a lot more than an out of date computer. You never mentioned why she took it, did you do something to cause this action?

If you're not 18 then she can take it away. I couldn't wait to turn 18 just so my parents couldn't do anything to me and I can be in control of myself
