What is a good definition for Anime? (read description)

Well, I have a lot of friends but only like 7 to 8 of them watch anime (I only know anime from singing, dancing (vocaloid), drawing (anime) and video games and you know...manga) But when I try to explain Anime to my friends who don't watch anime, I can't explain it unless I say an episode but they don't know what that episode is because they don't watch anime. I tell them it's NOT cartoon...it's two different things...

It is an animated series and or movie that is created and originated from Japan specifically. While anime DO have a significant difference to cartoons, that is not the reason they are classified differently.
