What can I substitute for cornstarch? Plz help. Must be done tonite!

I have to make Iraqi halawa halib. it requires 2.5cups of cornstarch I ran out a few days ago and it's night time. I can't go to the store. what can I use to substitute it? HELP! ahhh Dx OMG help me plzzzz I wouldn't be able to sleep without this done :( ahhhh

The closest substitute I can think of is Arrowroot.

Yes that will do the same job as cornstarch or corn flour as its known to us here in Australia.

Well maybe make muffins instead. Try any flour then. Or better still ask a neighbour to lend you some.

You can use flour as a substitute for corn starch but only if you make a roux with it. first. That is to say, make a paste of flour and oil or butter, and cook it a bit first--otherwise, it'll taste just like uncooked flour. Rule of thumb is cook it until it shows signs of wanting to turn brown, You want to remove the heat before it actually browns a lot.

Umm, unless I'm reading it wrong, it calls for both cake flour and corn starch. Hmmm.

2 Tbs flour for each Tbs of cornstarch.
