Also, lifting the feed bags (50 IB.) and bales of hay.

about 3 days a week, on the weekend and a lesson day. I don't have horse yet, but if I get one I would be there more often.

For sure, I got huge solid thighs from riding. Well not from riding itself but the constant falling & having to climb back on

lol; hopefully I will not fall
Report as
I've never really fallen, but I've been thrown a bunch of times. Thoroughbreds are fast, beautiful, strong & completely nuts. It is a great form of exercise with a twist-you're putting a great deal of trust in an animal that really isn't the brightest

Oh yeah. I took riding lessons for two years and it was exhausting to be honest. Sore muscles, especially my thighs.

What the hay and bags of feed?
Report as
Ummm.... You don't just sit on a horse.... Try riding a horse that hasn't been ridden in forever, then come back here and say it isn't work, I DARE you.

Actually sitting on the horse and just riding around, no. haha. I know some pretty fat people who ride horses quite a lot. But lifting feed bags, hay, saddles and barn work? Heck yes. lol

If you learn to ride properly (helping the horse to carry you, not just sitting on it), then you get a great workout in thighs, calves and butt, especially.
Lifting bales and sacks is great, too, again as long as you do it properly (use calves, knees and thighs, not your arms and back alone -- "bend zee knees!" was what I was always told... Trainer had a heavy accent, heh).
Grooming well and mucking stalls is real good for upper arms, too.
Yep, definitely good exercise if you do it right!
