Is it true that cutting your hair makes it grow faster?

I have heard that cutting split ends or an inch or two off your hair makes it grow faster. Myth or fact?

No, you merely see the difference more easily when it is short.

No, it's a myth. How would the roots of your hair know what the ends were doing?

trimming your hair on a regular basis does help your hair grow slightly faster and makes your hair stronger and healthier. this is due to removing split ends and damaged hair.

Hair grows at the same rate both day, and night, morning, and bedtime. All the hair grows at the same rate no matter if they are cut in layers or a blunt cut.
(hair on the head) Hair grows at about an average of 1/4 to 1/2 inch a month. Some people are luckier and have hair that grows just a little longer in a month.
(hair on the other body parts) Hair on legs grow at different rate then hair on your head. But even then it grows at the same rate day and night.

Your hair will grow out stronger and healthier if you get the ends trimmed regularly, but doing this will not cause your hair to grow faster. Human hair grows approx. 1 inch per month.

Technically no, but the reason we cut it is because the ends die and start to crack and break, if you don't trim the dead ends off, your dead ends will start to crack and break further up your hair, making it get shorter and shorter. So trimming prevents that from happening, so that you can grow it out faster. It definitely helps me grow my hair out faster if I can keep it trimmed.

Not necessarily. While cutting your hair does not make it grow faster, it will make it look and feel healthier. I have waist length hair, and I get it cut every 5 or 6 months.

It is a myth. Cutting your hair, just makes it shorter. Also hairs split when cut, it is just that some people who have dry overworked hair show their split ends more.

As a rule, hair grows an inch a month until it reaches 10-12 inches in length, & then it slows its growth to 1/4-1/2 an inch monthly. Tends to grow faster in summer. Lack of nutrition can slow hair growth; genetics can make some people's hair grow very fast. See country singer "Crystal Gayle," whose whole family can grow head hair to ankle length!
