What do I need to do to tulip plants before putting them in the ground?
I'm in S.C. & it's 42? now.
Before putting tulip plants in the ground, you should put them in a freezer. This is recommended for about 10 to 12 weeks so that the condition allows the bulbs to grow. You can find more tips on growing tulips from http://www.guide-to-houseplants.com/growing-tulips.html.
Some people soak them in water first, to help get them started. AFterwards you can also put them in a window box covered with soil to catch sun and get a head start on growing...then when you put them outside in the ground, they'll be little plants.
