If Earth were to suddenly move one million miles closer to the sun...Would we die instantly or slowly die?

My friend and I have been arguing about this for the past half hour. I think that we would die instantly but he thinks we would die slowly...What do you think?

We would die instantly. The power of the Sun is obviously stronger than anything. Plus it has all the solar flares. We would end up getting hit with a huge solar flare, that will wipe out and destroy everything instantly. The Earth will end up getting blown up. Imagine being hit with a bomb, when you're right in it's way. It will be much worse, but we will all form into ashes anyhow, so we won't feel any pain. Unless someone somehow survives the blast, but there's no possible way. Have you ever seen Terminator 2: Judgement Day, when that one lady who goes after that one black guy, dreams about the end of the world? It shows a huge blast coming from the Sun, and everyone forms into ashes? It will be so similar to that, but instead... we won't be screaming like those people were in that movie.

Nothing will happen to us though, so don't worry about anything. Just enjoy your life while you still have one. Anything can happen though, so just be ready at the same time. Still... don't worry.

nothing would happen. The Earth regularly moves up to 3 million miles closer to the Sun during its elliptical orbit of the Sun.

Nothing will happen to us. We orbit the sun and get closer and farther from it every revolution. That's why we have summer and winter. It gets hotter as we get closer, and colder as we get closer.
