Do rocks mend cracks there surface? Sandstone has dark brown substance, Most other types have a Quartz filler

I have at least 20 rocks that look like they have been mended.

Not exactly. Often other mineral rich fluids will seep into cracks in rock and crystallize as they cool (this is common with quartz which dissolves easily in extremely hot fluids). Sometimes sediments will build up in the cracks and harden over time. Sometimes a stone will partially melt and heal itself as it cools again (deep inside the earth).

Rocks do not mend cracks that occur of their surface. The cracks can mend up after segments of the weathered rock flow and seep into the cracks and they harden in there. The small segments that break through the weathering process harden overtime and cover the cracks.
