Why are there so many allergies in the younger generation?

I'm 33 and have never seen as many younger people riddled with so many allergies to things like dairy, wheat, gluten and so on.I was wondering if any one had a definitive answer as to why.Is it the hormones in livestock,or meds they give to the parents?

Technology....They have invented so many weird stuff now in the foods we eat.
So, many "artificial stuff".

I think it depends on how strong their immune system is. In my opinion I feel like nowadays people arent eating healthy, so I feel like it depends on that. I'm probably wrong, but I'm only 13 im not a doctor.

Immunizations for everything don't allow the body to build up natural defense mechanisms.

Increased pollution, increased pollen output from warmer climates. The trees put out more to ensure more survives the heat. Also, second and third generation accumulation of second hand smoke in lungs. I think it affects the genetic system so that the next generation has altered respiratory function. I know smoker pregnancies will cause asthma. It did with my daughter. (And the government has now admitted to spraying chemicals in our air in the 70's, 80s and 90s to test their effect on large human populations. Don't know what chemicals though.

I disagree about the smoking part,I've been around smokers my whole life, with no ill effects. If the government admits to that, what about the things they don't tell us.

Children need to be exposed to a variety of dirt before age 18 months to boost their immune systems. Nowadays, that doesn't happen much. Also, there is a positive correlation between kids with peanut allergies and very clean homes and lifestyles where kids are inside most of the time.

Great answer!**** I'm amazed at the amount of chemicals households use to attempt a Germ/Bacteria free envornment, and then pile more on to make it " smell good"! Yuk!:-(. Give me good old White Vinegar and Baking Soda any day!:-).
Report as
Cheap vinegar is the best!
Report as
Oh yes, cheaper the better! Ha, ha.
Plus makes great "Volcano" cleaning of drains once a month or so along with the Baking Soda! Fun Cleaning!:-).

Sheez, I use it on just about everything! That and old style 'Blueing' on whites.. Works!

Hi T! So you're saying PN allergies are more common in clean environments? What do you think about exposing babies to certain foods before the age of 2?
Report as
Yes, Bubb. Babies should try lots of different foods before age two. They should be playing in the dirt as toddlers -- worms and all. Peanut allergies are now associated with higher income ( people who have their homes professionally regularly). No early access to lots of different bacteria and microbes kick starts the whole immune system.

@Rathkeale, did you ever get the problems with connections etc. totally straightened out? Just noticed on your Profile Page, the Answered Q's arent showing.. ?
@Bubbli, hey!!!:-). Don't know what T will answer, but have heard it is not safe to give Babies under 2 Honey? Used to think had to do with some Enzyme they hadn't developed yet and then recently read has to do with risk of Botulism? Either of you know anything about that?
Report as
Ok, nix my first question on Profile, Rathkeale... Guess is mine having hiccups.. Just worked fine... Duh...(0.
Report as
Hi W! Yes, no honey under age 1, but they also suggest holding off on giving babies foods such as cows milk, eggs, fish and nuts. They believed to cause allergies later on. Hmm..

Processed food and drink .. NO exercise..

I think modified and processed food,as well as steroids in livestock is the main reason.Kids being stuck in a "bubble" doesn't help either.

So there you are, given every explanation on earth and nobody is the wiser. I think the idea of developing early immunity holds up.

As in letting kids swim in the creek and play in dirt, not wear a helmet when they ride bikes? I agree, this is a generation of weaklings.

You ask a lot of Q about alergies. In poor countries they dopn´t have as many but they certainly have asthma..maybe from adults smoking and molds.

PS Many kids now are raised on the plastic milk bottle and do not get colostrum from their mother....very suspect!!!!

@RobinDay I never thought about the bottle thing.. but that is probably a huge part of it!
Report as
It's worth following up. We know that newborn calves and lambs need the colostrum. Just heard (RADIO) that breast cancer is linked to the western life style. Artificial light is prob screwing up with our natural hormone cycles.

MY SCIENCE TEACHER JUST WENT OVER THIS! :D It's because they use so many technology inventions in-doors,the children don't et out and aren't exposed to the pollen and such as much as before all the technology was the major aspect of their lives. If children got off their laptops, phones,iPods, etc. they wouldn't be bothered as much by "allergy trigger-ers" as much. :)

because from the air you breath to the food u eat nothing is pure anymore.my nieces are allergic practically to the air they breath and so many kids at their school have an allergy to sth mind u their parents have no allergies.too many preservatives and artificial ingredients have helped make our kids immune system weak.

Kids are inside all the time there is too much artificial everything in our lives now. Studies show that children who were outside and played in the dirt (most eating it) were healthier and had almost no allergies. As RobinDay said it could be in the formula they have to drink bc they aren't getting 'natural ' milk

This is a country of pansies anymore.I never wore a helmet when I rode a bike and I used to swim in the dirty creek.Yes,most kids are sadly kept in a bubble these days.
Report as
Pansies have nothing to do with it. I was a fem kid but nobody messed with me because I had a backbone (selfposessed).
