Do you think some nightmares are spiritual attacks?

I just had a horrible nightmare and I almost feel attacked.

Report as

So sorry for your nightmare sweetie! :(

Believe it or not but, Some people have nightmares after having a late-night snack, which can increase metabolism and signal the brain to be more active. A number of medications also are known to contribute to nightmare frequency. Drugs that act on chemicals in the brain, such as antidepressants and narcotics, are often associated with nightmares. Non-psychological medications, including some blood pressure medications, can also cause nightmares in adults.
Withdrawal from medications and substances, including alcohol and tranquilizers, may trigger nightmares. If you notice a difference in your nightmare frequency after a change in medication, talk with your doctor.

Are they spiritual attacks? No.

Thanks, CJ, I sound like a baby, but it was realistic and scary. So, I had no late snack, no med changes. We'll see.

When I was taking benadryl, it gave me very vivid, scary, realistic nightmares.

Idk but I had a dream about a demon at the end of a hallway and I was looking at it. ran towards me and I ran towards it. punched its face. And look down at my hands. I had mixed martial arts gloves on with crosses lighting up on them. it felt good to beat up evil. I woke up all proud haha

Sweetie, sorry for your nightmare. perhaps sometimes it is due to the huge psychological pressure or huge impression from your life and work. Perhaps you can try to have a tour on some other places to gain back your relaxation and positive attitude for life! :)

I was beginning to think I was the only one. When I'm wide awake, I know how to combat, but when I'm scared, confused, and half-asleep, I didn't do so good.

I've had very dark & evil dreams, where when I wake I feel overpowered & overshadowed by evil. It's so hard to get back to sleep & you feel alone. The only thing I can do is sing, praise & start to worship. Next thing I know, its morning. Yay!!!

I don't know about spiritual attacks but here's a few facts about sleep that might help.
There are two cycles that happen during sleep, NREM and REM. During non-rapid eye movement the body rests and stores energy, but during rapid eye movement, we do our dreaming
The REM cycle starts about 90 minutes into sleep and lasts 5 minutes to an hour, the two cycles repeating during sleep.
What's important is that we only dream in the REM cycle, and its an active state that affects both mental and physical activity during sleep, in fact brain waves show heightened activity, heart rate speeds up, respiration increases, similar reactions to the waking state.
Whew, tmi? I'm hoping to explain why you woke feeling attacked. If you woke up during or because of the bad dream, your body would be jolted from the REM cycle and the state you were in at that exact time.
I can see how this might feel like a spiritual attack, but it was probably results from your dream.
I hope you don't have another nightmare soon, if you do let me know, there are explanations for this too. And now I've got to go, it's past my bedtime.

I wouldn't think so. I believe it is just bad thoughts that we may tend to think of before we go to sleep.

Thanks, Suzie, I thought so, but I was so rattled! I always pray for protection before I go to sleep, I guess I need to step it up a bit!!! I am still so rattled, so I need to pray and get it under control!

You will feel better. Just remember, Christ helped you survive it. I was awakened once just before and had a few attacks during sleep. It's upsetting. Then I remember that I was not really harmed and Christ jumped in once when I called Him, I know for a fact. Or an angel. But my eyes got sealed, couldn't see what was going on. God bless you sweetie!

They can be, sometimes, but more likely it was just your subconcious trying to deal with a problem that you've been wrestling with.

Some people think Satan or demons are infiltrating their minds during nightmares, but there is nothing in the Bible to substantiate this. There are no biblical incidents of demonic forces communicating with people during dreams or nightmares. Most likely, nightmares are nothing more than the brain's way of contending with our fears and concerns as it continues to function during sleep cycles. Praying for fifteen or twenty minutes prior to sleep is the most effective way to calm the mind and heart and prepare for restful sleep. As in all things, God grants wisdom to those who seek it from Him (James 1:5), and He has also promised His peace to all who seek it. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).Read more: http://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-nightmares.html#ixzz2LvgzPpqU

Hi Seriously. I saw this the other night and said a prayer for you right then and there, but it looked like you were getting some great answers already. I thought at the time it's residual from "you know what" and it pops back up on you when you least expect it. It will get easier and easier I promise . I always say a little prayer for you whenever I see your name on here. It will be okay sweetie.
