Can anyone help?

I'm not good with words.....I don't know what to say, when a friend tells me his/her problem.
I want to be there for him....I just don't know how to respond to him when he tells me his problem...so, my question is , what do I say when he tells me his problem, and how do I "be there" for him?

One of the things that really bothers me, when I'm talking to someone about my problems. Is when they tell me they know how I feel, (So don't say this), even someone who has been thru an experience that I've been thru, they still don't know how "I" feel. You can say something like, I understand what you are going thru, but don't say you know how they feel.
Also another thing that bothers me when talking to someone about my problems, is when they change the subject and talk about themselves. So make sure not to do this.
The best thing you can do is prove that you will always be there. So when you tell someone "I will always be there for you", they know it's true. I'm sure Phlorence, that you have already proved this to every one of your friends, so telling them that you'll always be there for them, is probably one of the best things you can say.
You could always ask them if they need anything, or if there's anything you can do to help them. More than likely they will say no.
Good luck sweetie. You got this!

Most of the time you don't even need to say anything. Just hug them.

You can tell him that don't be worried so that all will be okay OR don't be worried that was the thing to happen.

You can say, ''oh I understand, don't worry all will be fine. I am with you always."
And then suggest him ways to get out of the problem, like if you were him, what would you do in that situation.
Hope this helped. :) All the best! ;)

I get put into that position often. Especially at work. People send others to talk to me. It's not something I enjoy but mostly I just listen. I've found often times people just want someone who will actually take the time to listen. I'm cautious about any advice I give , that can backfire on you. And you run the risk of having people mad and blaming you. I always try to find research materials for then to read or steer them to a professional so they can get other opinions and ideas

Being a good listener or being to pretend to be can be a curse :)

It can be yes. I don't pretend to be though. I give it my best shot everytime.

Usually "I'll be here when you need me, and you know where to find me." does the trick. :o

CJ offered perfect advice. Letting that person know that you simply just have their back when they are feeling crappy, helps.

tell him honestly that your not that good with words, then you give him assurance that you're always gonna be there for him.. like what I always tell you... "Don't worry, I'm at your back"......SMILE :) then you tell him "Everything's gonna be alright" ^_^

it's sometimes hard to console a friend when they are bit stress out and might not take your words for good even if you had lot to say.so just dont be there for the sake of being there.BE THERE!..
