After seeing your line of questioning here at this site, I'll only state this. Trillions have been wasted to buy the favor of the people and special interests this money is funneled to in entitlement spending.
If you are serious about the troubled economy of the USA take a look at this web page http://www.usdebtclock.org/ Watch it for a few minutes and scan the many categories showing where our money goes in real time.

Anybody who believes that any government "gives" away money is naive. There are always strings attached. Something (influence typically) is always expected in return. Sometimes the "aid" is enough to get the desired results, sometimes it isn't. There is always some other govt. prepared to ante up in exchange for some degree of influence in foreign politics/economics.
Aside from that, America remains very rich and has one of the highest standards of living in the world, That will change, because an economic model based on limitless growth has hit the wall of a finite world. We have all been living well beyond our means,(not just the govt.) incurring record levels or Personal debt, and squandering the wealth of a nation on a lot of useless consumer junk. Also, the market for uneducated, unskilled labour is shrinking and will continue to do so due to automation, computerization, etc. resulting in large numbers of redundant workers. Those labour-intensive jobs will not be coming back.
The idea that we are poor has been spun out of control by the media and politicians trying to gain political points. The US is the richest country on Earth, we have the strongest economy and create the most jobs. We educate our children to be power players in the world and they help continue America's greatness. We outspend ever other major power COMBINED on our military. And that's not even a quarter of our budget. Even though our economy may seem slow now, it is still bigger than most nations ever dream to be. Believe in America, because she will surely never fail you.
