People who receive Section 8 vouchers go find their own rental housing and use the vouchers they receive from their housing agency to help pay the rent. The voucher allows the government to pay a specific portion of the total rental amount. If you wish to rent to Section 8 voucher holders, you should inform the local Housing Authority of the availability of your property and also indicate in your advertising that you welcome Section 8 voucher holders. You must make the decision whether or not this is appropriate for you and your circumstances.

To do it, you need to contact your local housing authority.

As for whether or not you should - the up side is that you are more likely to rent it out. The down side is that you now have to deal with the housing authority, not just your renters.

Also, keep in mind that renters can cause a lot of problems. It's not their property so they don't always take very good care of it. Renting can turn into a huge pain in the butt.

Get at least TWO MONTHS deposit! Also, remember, it's next to impossible to evict someone who is on Section 8, so if they stop paying rent, by the time you get them removed, your house will be trashed!!!
