I have questions about depression: please see description, I need some help from someone who understands. Especially a woman with insight.
I have never experienced depression. If I feel bad about something, I deal with it, get over it and move on. I do not understand what a person is going through when they have chronic depression. The problem is that my wife is depressed and I don't know how to help her. She has gained weight and is self conscious about it. She feels like she is being treated unfairly and not respected at work. This morning , she called in sick for the second Monday in a row and when she woke up, she came to me crying and saying that she feels like she needs to talk to a doctor and get on medicine because she feels depressed. She has been sleeping constantly and still feels tired all the time. She has no energy for chores around the house, helping with our 4 year old daughter and her sex drive is all but gone. Like I said before, I don't understand depression. I love her very much and I want to support her but I feel like she is being overly sensitive and I want her to get over it. I understand that with severe depression this is not easy to just "get over". Can someone please tell me a little about it and how I can help her? I'm looking four some insight and advice from anyone, especially a woman, who can help me. Thank you.
