One of the biggest problems society has today is over-population, yet because of beliefs on birth control brought forward from ancient time, nothing is really being done to address the problem. I think that is a good example of social paralysis; a problem that society won't act on.
The quest for the advancement/improvement of technology within the scope of individual lives. While neglecting the detrimental effects: environmentally, health wise, financially, etc. on a global scale. The "dependency" which is quickly "putting the cart before the horse" or the machine before the individual. Convenience reversed to Slavery, of sorts.
