Can someone in a coma hear you and/or have the ability to ask God for forgiveness and accept Him as Lord over their life?

A friend of mine that I hadn't seen for over 5 years, was on a bad path in her life, got involved in drugs and one day went for a swim in her swimming pool, feel asleep and drowned, she was brought back to life but remains in a coma, she seems to know when her mom is there cause she starts crying, she's been this way going on 3-4 months now.

Yes, people in comas can hear!! As you can tell by your friends reaction to her mom!!
I had a friend that was in a coma for 9 weeks when he came out he could remember some of the conversations that were said while he was in his coma. I am not sure they can talk to anyone, but I have heard stories that coma patients said that they were screaming to their families that they were here & dont give up on me. So I guess anything is possible!?
Good luck to you friend!!

Wow that sounds scary, not being able say anything and yet knowing your family is there!

Yes, maybe....but I would think comforting also! Knowing that they love you & care for you know matter what shape you are in!!
We talked to my friend just like he was awake & sitting there having a conversation with us. We talked about our day & what went on. Laughed, cried, told jokes, told him to quit being so lazy & get up out of that d@mn bed coz he had a lot of favors to make up for because he had been laying around for so long!!
It just depends on the person & the family & how you can talk to the person. But when you visit be youself & act like you did with them dont overstay your welcome& dont get frustrated. Again good luck!! I wish your friend nothing but the best!!!!

@tattoogirl. You are an inspiration to me! My sister is in a medically indosed coma, breathing on life-support. I visited with her in the hospital and have done all of the things that you've mentioned. I spoke softly into her ear, stroked her hair, kissed her face and told her that she will come out of this situation. Although I didn't notice any signs that she knew that I was there, I'm praying that her knowing she's loved and cared for by her friends and family will give her strength and encourage her to start to recovery from her illness. Thank you so much!

Keep praying for her... Pray for her every day and every time you see her that she would wake up and that she would have the opportunity to hear the good news of the gospel. And maybe if she can hear, who knows. Talk to her as if she can,

".. Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?" Genesis 18:25
Although we don't know all that is going on in her head, God does and He is loving and fair. You can still pray for her, her recovery and her family. God is the God of the impossible.

Yes, I know a hospice nurse who has told me of many people who have received christ as their savior right before dying and some who were in a coma. She has seen a person in a coma for months but suddenly sit up and accept christ, then, laid back down and died.

I've read a book written by a hospice doctor and he has seen many things like this at the time of the persons death. (where a person who cannot talk, will be able to talk just before their death, etc.) One lady had been on a ventilator and in a coma for weeks and just before she died, she was able to talk. This jewish lady said that Jesus came to her while she was in her coma and said, "You know, I'm Jewish, also." She accepted him as her savior... all while in a coma. She was able to tell this to her family just before she died. :)

That is amazing, but her mom told me that the doctor has said that she is completely brain dead, she also said that the doctor advised to give her daughter a shot that would kill her so that she would be in peace, I couldn't believe it!

Oh, wow. Well, never underestimate what God can do. And, even during this time, God can be speaking to her. i'm very sorry about your friend. It must be very difficult. Praying for her and all of you.

If she is considred brain dead, how is it that she cries when her mom talks with her?

I know, that's what I asked! they say it's a reflex.

My sister was in a coma and they kept saying it was reflex, but everytime I got around her and talked in her ear, she moved her arms and legs all around just when she heard my voice. Please let me know how you are here in comments so hopefully I can help you more.

I agree. You just never know what they can hear even though they are said to be brain dead.
