Is this normal? Haha read below.

ok,so I recently got a Syrian hamster and whenever I call him Robert (I named him that) he stops what he's doing and looks at me and doesn't move for a few seconds...and yeah Robert is the hamster in the photo.

Maybe Robert is getting used to the name. Keep calling him by that and see what happens!

It's like in fairly old parents he is the hamster that hates the cat. Try to see him in action at night he glows

It's learning its name. Either that or it's entertained by the sound of you saying Robert. Kind of like babies and words like jelly...

I don't think it's anything to worry about. It may just be the same way dogs react to certain words learned like "food", "walk", or their name.

Lol yeah!!! I had one just like him named Bozo and he was very smart. Came to you when called and could manage to unlatch his cage and crawl into my bed at night

Robert is probably adjusting to the fact that you named him Robert. He is pausing so he can locate the place when the sound came from. Also so he can learn and recognize who it came from.

Yeah hamsters can recognize your voice and sometimes certain commands. They also react to sudden sounds... their eyesight is poor, so hearing and feeling are their methods of understanding the world.

My cat is named Ellen. Whenever I call her Ellen, she won't even look. If I call her Phillip, she'll turn her head so fast. So from now on we just call her Phillip.

nope it is not wierd, he knows that is his name and he has learned that if you call him you might have a treat or something for him. He is waiting for you to give him something and you dont so he goes back to what he was doing in the first place.
