It depends. Typically an apprenticeship is for you to gain qualifications and experience in the field.

Basics. Knowledge of tools and their use. They usually ask you to demonstrate your proficiency with an instrument or tool. ( I did an interview and the guy gave me a Vernier Caliper and wanted a demonstration).

yeh but did u have qualifactions ?

I had an education, but I sort of "bluffed" it. An education not in that field. (I knew how to read blueprints and SOPs so I guess that might have been a qualification or experience).

Sometimes in the "Game of Life" you have to bluff at times.

It's *good* to have qualifications if you want to do an apprenticeship - particularly good passes in maths and English.

If you lack qualifications you may have to get good enough scores on literacy and numeracy tests in order to be considered and/or you might have to do additional English and maths study during your apprenticeship.

You should discuss apprenticeships with a careers adviser and check out the helpful information on this website: http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk/Be-An-Apprentice.aspx
