I think I'm really starting to hate my dog. Help!?

I've had my dog for a while now. He's a year old. At first it was great. Potty triaing was easy, he was cute and fun. And even as he got older and bigger I still adored him. I'm a little over 4 months pregnant now and I'm getting to the point where I can't stand him
It seems like every little thing he does annoys me. And I'm thinking about getting rid of him. Not to mention he chews up ONLY MY STUFf. Not my fiances. & his skinny little head slips out of all collars we've bought him. (He weighs about 80 lbs.) he eats a ton and also craps like a cow. Obviously you can see how I'm not liking him very much. Some days are better than others though. Today is just one of those days. Do I put him up for adoption or do I stick it out?

Wow...I know being pregnant isn't always all happy sunshine and you have a lot going on in your head. But, you better prepare yourself...a baby is much more work than this dog. Maybe you could ask your fiance to take care of the dog, just to relieve a little tension. Perhaps an obedience school could help, the dog may sense that something is not the same with you. I say you stick it out and find a solution...good luck.

Maybe you are not a person who should have a dog. They give unconditional love and are like "kids". For what they give they really ask nothing in return. Give him away.

He could end up being your babies best friend!!! Get him some chew toys, and wall him, they make training collars, that he can't slip out of

Every dog deserves to be loved, so find him a home, but don't get him killed just because you are so mean. The shelters kill them. And it's not "Potty training" with a dog. He's an animal, not a baby. I think you had unrealistic expectations. They chew stuff from the person they love the most, also, duh.

Um excuse me missy...I love him still and care about his well being I'm not going to throw him in a shelter to be killed. He's a good dog. He doesn't deserve to die just because my patience is getting thin with him. So before you go opening your mouth why don't you think. And um yes it is 'potty training' BC he was and'' still is my baby. I'm not a mean person. Your mean for being judgemental

give him up for adoption cause animals are kinda like people and they need love to, so if he aint getting any then def give him away!!

I definitely know the feeling! Except mine is with a cat. I would say stick it out, BUT if your pregnant maybe it would be better to give him away. It wouldn't be good if he started chewing the babies stuff too, that would probably cause you to hate him a little more! Good luck and I hope you make the right choice :) congrats by the way!

Its sounds like you are just having stress being pregnant. Dont dump the dog somewhere. Keep it until after the pregnancy. You cant just decide that the dog is no good any more.

I know how difficult it can get with pets as your life changes. Dogs can sense changes and anxieties towards them. I have 3 wonderful dogs that also do things to annoy me, but they love me and I love them. One dog is sick and has cost us around $8000 since last May. Another needs knee surgery at $1800 per knee and the last, a 6 year old we adopted one year ago is 100 lbs, afraid of his own shadow, shakes uncontrollably during any type of rain, and is very needy. Even with all of their problems, I would never get rid of them. Maybe you should have put more thought into a pet before you got the dog. He can't help his behavior, he's just trying to get your attention and get back your love. Maybe another family member can take him in. Good luck with your decision.

My first instinct would be to suggest to find him a more suitable home .. where he can be loved like he deserves to be. You can't fake it .. Your resentment and animosity can't be hidden. HE will suffer consequences due to your inability to show him affection.

I'm not saying you would be mean to him or mistreat him .. I'm just saying having a dog means more than offering him food and shelter. He deserves better than that.

Consider, finding him a better home. This just may not be the dog for you, and while you are only beginning to start your family, this may not be the time for a pet to join your family.

Not sure you need a child if an innocent dog is working your nerves.

He already knows all the tricks. I've spent a lot of time teaching him things like I take out of gun and say BANG and he plays dead. He's got them all in the bag. He's Very smart. That's one thing I do like about him...he's just too smart..But you are right Whenever I get him a bone he'll chew on it for hours non-stop. so maybe I just need to get him some more bones. Thanks!
Report as
No problem and remember to get a pin and toys and bones no more chewing your stuff and guess what when the baby comes the baby will love the dog doing tricks the baby will
Laugh and clap at the dog doing tricks so just think that dog would mean a lot to the baby
