"If" he comes back I'm sure he will see it as that HE had a lasting impact on what he did....probably see that people do remember him after all these loooong years. I'm also sure he will facepalm after he finds out how careless and thoughtless most are.

I think it's CATHOLICS that wear crucifixes. In the churches I've been to, a crucifix wouldn't be worn, because we believe that Jesus is no longer ON the cross - He gained victory over that (and death) and rose again. So we celebrate the cross because of what it accomplished for us (or rather what Jesus accomplished ON IT for us), but we worship Jesus.
A rifle could stand for something, too - I know. But not for something nearly as important.
I love the cross. And He HAD to go to it for us to have eternal life. Peter said "let's take up our arms" to fight for Christs life. Jesus said "stand behind me Satan" because that WAS Satan talking, trying to keep Him from the cross. The cross represents death defeated!
You do realize less than 1/3 of the worlds population is Christian? I am NOT part of that demographic.
Genius, pure genius, has always bordered on insanity. Bill was quite sane, and very right about many things.
Go look up what he had to say about music and teen music, just replace the names with modern ones (like one direction) and it still holds true.
BTW- you do know his father was a preacher/minister and he was raised with the church. He showed his parents every bit of his material and they never thought he was insane. In fact one of his specials is called "Sane Man".
You used present tense so that tells me you don't know squat about Bill and his brand of comedy.
I worship no human.
I used to be devoutly Christian. I wore a cross to symbolize Jesus' sacrifice for humankind, and as a symbol that I was a Christian.
I believe NO ONE is a purely good person, I believe everyone has just as much bad in them as good. I believe if you don't in some way show thanks for what you have, you will slowly lose all that you have. I believe that if you don't show kindness to animals you're an evil being. I believe Lilith was the first woman in creation not Eve. I believe in every form of Karma and I believe black cats to be lucky. I also believe in magic. I've performed household spells and I've seen blood magic with results. Oh, and that everything you SAY comes back to you, if you're verbally negative and insulting it invites negativity into your life. That one I know too well, my birth mother RADIATES negative energy and I have to work hard to not absorb it.
Everyone says treat others how you want to be treated...I've always had a hard time with that, I tend to treat people the way they deserve. Because of that some people strongly dislike me and some people think it's inspiring how I call people out on their bull spit. My philosophy on that is if you're gonna be a jerk, that's how I'm going to treat you. If you try and push your religious beliefs on me I'll get pushy right back but I'll add a dash of snarcasm. That's snarky sarcasm.
so if he died by a hammer or guillotine I wonder if people would wear those around their necks.
Looking at all the answers and comments...THIS is why I roll my eyes at MOST Christians.
The cross symbolizes Jesus's sacrifice for the sinners. They wear it to remind themselves of it.
I think Christians wear it as a symbol of their faith and to remind them of the sacrifice Jesus/God made to save them. And if Jesus comes back, I don't think he would really care. I think there are more pressing matters to worry about than whether someone is wearing or not wearing a cross.
My point is DO YOU REALLY THINK HE'D WANT TO EVER LOOK AT A CROSS?!
Just as my question says, so stop trying to reinterpret it.
If you need to wear a special piece of jewelry to remember your beliefs you have problems.
I stand by what I said, if you need to wear a special piece of jewelry to remind you of your faith then you don't have true faith. If you truly had faith in your heart you wouldn't need a mental talisman because your faith would be unwavering. I know plenty of Christians who believe the same and don't need to wear a cross to remind them they have Christ in their hearts.
It's a material possession, true faith is not.
Comparing it to a person who is physically handicapped is completely off base, you have no physical need to wear jewelry. So your argument from that point is invalid.
The analogy is valid. Others might need reminders of their faith just like others need a wheelchair or cane to get around. Does that mean those who don't need reminders of their faith are better people? Does it matter that a Christian might use a reminder to keep them from sinning? It has been years since I've been to church but I could have sworn Jesus came for the sinners and not those who were already perfect.
Every religion has some sort of symbol or ritual that its adherents carry with them as a physical link to spirituality. Even basketball players make the sign of the cross as a hedge against missing.
I wear a cross. I love Him and what He did for me. I don't wear one with Him on it because He isn't anymore. The cross represents His love for me.
I believe some claim because it reminds them of what Jesus went though for them. But if your a Christian He should be in your heart and you should be transformed by the renewing of your mind. So if Jesus is truly with you then you don't need a reminder. My Jesus conquered the cross and the grave and has risen. He's the Risen King. I'm in agreement with MarSch. God Bless!
Although I have to admit, many more people are wearing crosses now as jewelry that don't have a clue about Jesus... Either way, it can bring up the topic, if the timing is right...
Sometimes my unsaved son, who keeps saying he's ALMOST ready to receive Jesus, will say something like "well, praise the Lord" and it makes me cringe. I know he says it just for me, but it makes me hurt when I hear him saying something he has absolutely no knowledge of... One of these days, I'll confront him about it. Of course, there'll be a little bit of an arguement then... So maybe not.
Boy, talk about getting off subject. Sorry 'bout that! Have a good one, Suzie...
Personal=private, as in KEEP IT TO YOURSELF.
I pity your son with a mother like you.
I don't believe children automatically HAVE to belief the same as their parents.
The key is TOLERANCE, not jewelry.
If I was trying to force Paganism or Satanism on my children everyone would find that to be messed up. Just saying.
But this is what ya'll (meaning atheists, or others) don't understand... If my son does NOT receive Jesus, then when he dies, he will live eternally in hell. I LOVE him and I do NOT want that to happen at all! It is VERY important to ALL Christians that the ones they love (especially) come to know God.
I haven't "pushed" Jesus on him for years. Don't even mention it unless he brings it up. A few years ago, I told him if he'll sit and listen with an open mind, I'll tell him everything he needs to know (about getting saved, and God loving him, etc.), and how to ask Jesus into his heart, then I would not keep bringing it up... We did it in Shoney's. He knows how (when he hits bottom), now, and I pray he'll take the step. (he's an alcoholic/druggie.)
So, please, stop talking about shoving things down their throat. I don't, but I would if that's what it would take. And it all would be out of love. You would do the same thing, if you believed anything strongly, and it would help your family so much. It's a step of total love...
For years I've tried to talk to my brother about the Lord. He's three years older then me. Anyway He's 63 now and I'm almost 61 After my mother died ( 2009 she was a christian ) it was just me and him and he seems to be coming around and are relationship is better than it's been in almost 35 years. I'll pray for your son. God Bless!
I was raised by my grandmother who was of the same mind that children HAVE to believe the same as their parents. I think that's messed up personally.
The only thing you can really do for your son is to not enable him and to learn more about addiction. You could also go to an al-anon meeting, that's for family of addicts.
There are MANY more non Christians besides atheists...don't presume I'm an atheist because I'm not. Not by a long shot.
No I had real addiction problems, meth and acid. I ended up in a meeting completely by accident and after 3 months stopped going because they're mostly whiners.
To me conformed religion is an opiate for the masses. I have never needed a placebo.
James, I totally believe that Jesus delivered you. He also delivered me. I was sober for 4 years after He delivered me. I didn't know anything about addiction, and I got back into drinking. After a year I was back flat on my face (and I was a leader in the church!). This time the Lord healed me, but in a different way. I did all the right/same things, but He did not take it all away. This time I had to do it the hard way. I couldn't get the help in church, because "if I just believed enough, He would heal me. Or maybe there was some other sin in my life." So my spiritual mentor took me to AA. That's where I got sober. Extremely hard, and grueling process, but I did find out that sometimes He delivers us, but sometimes it's a process and not instantaneous...
Mar I'm truly glad that it worked out that way for you. And I truly believe God did put you there for that short period of time in order to bring that person to the Lord. Praise Jesus! But I also know that the things they teach 90% or more never truly come to know God it's just a secular way of getting people to overcome their addictions as long as they continue to go to the meeting.
James, thanks for saying my thinking was logical. I love logicalness.
If you've been through it personally then you know your son has to want it himself, for himself.
Good for you for finding sobriety! I mean that with all sincerity.
Sedai - congratulations on YOUR sobriety, too... And blessings to you...
Well, I were it because I acknowledge what he did for me and to show that I believe he was able to over come the cross. Laying your sins at the cross is the only way to have a chance to live with the father of grace, love, passion, compassion, and creation, and the son who shed his blood for our sins and concord death three day later, for the rest of eternity.
1 Peter 2:24
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
Not all Christians wear crucifixes or crosses. Personally I think if people don't know you're a Christian by your actions, then expecting your jewelry to speak for you is kind of silly.
For myself I'll still stick with example over symbols. To often symbols are used to divide people. Good works unite all decent people.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
- Matthew 5:16
Suzie, I saw that you had responded but it was already deleted before I got to it. Did you mention another user or something like that?
Kinda like wearing a necklace of an electric chair around a group of those sentenced to death... Well... jesus wasn't the only one killed on a cross (if he even was)... Just remember you all are also worshipping what was used to kill murderers, thieves rapists, and some innocent... But... Wearing a cross is one of those things people have done for so long that they just don't think about it anymore... To me it symbolizes revenge and sometimes justice... The killing of scum... Jesus will have to say something about it if he is traumatized... Or send some kind of message...... Or has he?...
Look him up, find his stuff, open your mind, and listen.
Good question. I'm a Christian and I never wear a cross or a crucifix. Or display one in my house or car. I think they are gruesome. It's a depiction of a murder weapon. It signifies the moment that the Devil thought he had won (boy was he in for a surprise!). If Christ had been killed by a firing squad do you suppose they would wear little toy rifles around their necks? I think that the people who do wear or display crosses and crucifixes do do to commemorate the sacrifice that he made. That he submitted willingly to an ignoble and horrific death that he didn't deserve. I think it would be better to commemorate his victory. That he was raised from the dead and at that moment the Devil knew he had lost. The Devil wants to remember the death, his moment of glory. Christians should remember he is risen. Maybe an empty tomb would be a better symbol.
On a side note: Jesus Christ didn't look anything like the wimpy guy they show hanging on the cross. He was a tough guy and he was beaten mercilessly so that he was barely recognizable as a human being.
Anyone familiar with Bill Hicks knows I should have said cross instead of crucifix. They're the same thing to me.
Many people wear the cross or crucifix as a fashion piece without concern for its symbolism or a desire to represent Christ. But that should not mean Christians can't or shouldn't wear them. Many Christians wear crosses as a proud expression of their love, respect, and service to Christ, along with a remembrance of what He did for us.
It is not for any of us to judge whether wearing a cross is proper or not; every Christian has to seek God's approval in all he does. If it is not clearly outlined in Scripture whether a practice is lawful or edifying, then the practice is one better left to each person's conscience.Read more: http://www.gotquestions.org/Christian-jewelry.html#ixzz2M2diBLLl
I wear a cross. When I hear crucifix I think of a cross with a little Jesus mold form on it... The cross I a reminder to us for what he did on the cross, he great and matchless love for us all, think of it as a ring of sorts.. I don't do it for "religion" I do it to keep me in check and remember what Christ did for me on that great day
I agree. I dont wear one, but I think most people wear them because it symbolizes Christ dying for our sins. Its all about the meaning behind the cross.
I like the ones that are just the plain cross because of curse the point is that JESUS is no longer in the cross though he lives!!!!
I still think that if people want to wear something around their neck they should consider an empty tomb with the stone rolled away. Rub his nose in it. I know people who wear a depiction of a Dove representing the Holy Spirit made available for every believer to have permanently in them on that day of Pentecost when they received it and from then on.
It is a remembrance for what He has done for us. I have one but I don't wear one.

His material still holds true...
