What does the "Wisdom of the world" mean in the Bible?

The wrong kind of wisdom is arrogant and designed to create factions and produce jealousy (James 3:16) Instead of bringing people together wrong wisdom drives them apart; instead of producing peace it produces strife; and it is particularly designed by Satan to agitate personal relationships.

I suspect it is a reference to knowledge gained other than from the Bible or the "word of Yahweh." Which is to say, most of the knowledge that we as a species have available to us.

Just what it says Worldly Wisdom. King Solomon had Worldly Wisdom. God's looking for those seeking Godly Wisdom. Spiritual Wisdom.

He knew of God but He really didn't know Him. If you read God gave him a choice of Riches or Wisdom. Because he chose Wisdom God gave him both. Because the Wisdom he had brought him riches. That's Worldly Wisdom. Solomon himself say the Wisdom he had was like chasing after the wind. Meaning it was never ending and never satisfying. The 144,000 thousand are all Jewish male virgins the God has marked to take the Gospel to the Jewish People in the endtimes.12,000 to each tribe ( 12 tribes ) of Israel. Solomon was married. These will be people who are alive today and haven't seen death.

Solomon is not one of the 144, 000.

The 144,000 have been picked since the first century until now. They will rule over the earth eventually alongside Jesus. They are called virgins because that represents pureness. Jewish and male isn't literal but I have to research that further.

It's all literal. The Whole Word Of God is literal. And it means exactly what it says virgins. Amd no they will not be beside Jesus because Jesus has not returned yet. They are annointed by God and sealed by God.

Human philosophy and wisdom, which is foolishness to God.

It is human wisdom based on human traditions and philosophies. People influenced by human wisdom may be moved by the love of money, a good career, shopping excessively, traveling the world. Godly wisdom is in line with the scripture found at 1 Corinthians 7:31 (NASB) "and those who use the world, as though they did not make full use of it; for the form of this world is passing away."

Leah, Hi! I like your questions! I think most of these answer you very well, and I'd like to add one more: Colossians 2:8 (NIV)"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ." Thanks , I'm looking forward to seeing you around here! Bye! Beth

The epistles depict worldliness as the exact opposite of godliness. The world's wisdom is not wisdom at all (1 Corinthians 3:18-19). Rather, it is foolishness, especially the world's wisdom on the subject of religion. We see that today in the endless discussions of "spirituality" by men whose spiritual wisdom is based on nothing more than worldly illusions. True wisdom that comes from God is juxtaposed against the foolish "wisdom" of the world throughout Scripture. The message of the cross is foolishness to those with worldly wisdom who are perishing (1 Corinthians 1:18) because true wisdom comes not from man?s philosophies, but from God's Word. True godliness is always opposed by the world.

To the so-called wise and intellectual ones of the world the speech about Christ pouring out his lifeblood on a torture stake is foolishness. They scoff at the idea that by exercising faith in Christ’s sacrifice everlasting life in a righteous new system can be enjoyed. That Christ rose from the dead and is now the powerful King of God’s heavenly Kingdom is pure fantasy as far as they are concerned. Yet Almighty God purposes to have this heartwarming message made known worldwide. So to anyone who would become his servant he gives the assignment to preach this good news of his Kingdom. Since this message amounts to foolishness to the wise and intellectual ones of the world, whom does God use to preach it? Listen to the inspired answer from God’s own Word at 1 Corinthians 1:26-29
