What does generalizing mean?

I get called out because apparently I generalize others...when I don't...I don't even know what it means. So..what makes them think it's a smart idea to call me out for it?

Is calling someone who is autistic 'sub-human' a form of generalizing or negative stereotype? Would that fall under generalizing?

"Generalizing" people would be lumping them together in groups whether they belong there or not. To call an autistic person "sub-human" goes beyond generalization to down-right insult. Autism doesn't render anyone sub-human; autistic people are as human as anyone. If you have called autistic people "sub-human," which I hope you haven't, you need a total attitude reset.

Generalizing is not being specific. In the case of people, it would be like saying all (gender, a race, or a religion, etc.) are (stupid, ignorant, beautiful, unreasonable, etc.) .
