What is an example of thermal expansion

Steam is thermal expansion of water.
Heat a bar of steel on one side; it will bend because of the heated side expanding.
The worlds air currents, tornadoes, hurricanes, weather, etc. are all the result of thermal expansion of atmosphere resulting in differences in atmospheric ( barometric ) pressure.

Mercury in a thermometer expands due to heat.

Water expanding when frozen is not an example of thermal expansion.
Just the opposite.

Pot holes in the road. buckling in road. Water gets in cracks and expands when ice.

Ice is not an example of thermal expansion.
Thermal expansion is because of HIGHER temperature.
Expansion if ice is because of LOWER temperature.
