An outfielder throws a ball to home. as the ball arcs over the pitchers head what is the direction of the net force acting on ball?

no air resistance! a) slighty foward and down b) straight down c) directly towards home plate d) slightly backward and down

the answer is D. The force of air resistance is slowing the ball down (pointing toward the outfield). The force of gravity is accelerating the ball to the ground (straight down). So the net force would be straight down and slightly back towards the outfield.

The direction of the net force acting on the ball is at the direction of the exerted force. The acceleration is in a straight line relative to the net force and inversely proportional to the mass.
