Herpes can go dormant, but it will always be contagious. People who have the Herpes virus in their body, can still give it to someone else. The Disease will forever remain in their body, since there is no cure. Even if it heals, and even if there is no symptoms, the Herpes virus is still active.
Herpes Simplex can be just a cold sore around your mouth. When the cold sore is gone you can kiss away and your partner will not catch it. But beware when you have an open cold sore and stay away from kissing someone or touching it then spreading it with your hands. If you have the other type of Herpes Simplex, I would suggest you talk to your doctor. An old friend of mine who had it, told me she could have sexual relations with her husband as long as it was in its dormant stage. But as soon as she felt any tingling she was to avoid it.
