Try some chamomile tea. Also, turn off the t.v., radio, computer and other things that cause stimulation. Dont eat anything. Read a book until you get tired then close your eyes and try not to think too much. Meditation can be helpful. Tylenol PM if you have any around.

In my family, going to bed doesn't mean we're sleeping. It just means that we do something until we get tired. If you can't sleep, try reading something boring or something that you've read before. Or, if you have it, you can take a 3 mg of Melatonin or NyQuil. Also, have you heard of ProArgi9? I don't remember what it is supposed to help with, but it makes you tired so I took some every night when I was younger. It tastes good. Drinking herbal tea helps too because it's warm. If you don't have any of that stuff (medicine), you can pray to get tired!
I don't think that getting your heart rate up is a good idea.
