I own an asus g75v laptop and i was wondering if i was able to change the video input. specifically i want to play my ps3 on it using hdmi

Unfortunately, the hdmi port on your laptop is only good for outputting a signal to other monitors, so as good of an idea as that sounds, it doesn't actually work that way. They do sell wireless adapters though that allow you to play games on your laptop with a controller. They're pretty cheap and you can get them at GameStop.
