I just dropped a dime onto a wood floor and it landed on its edge and rolled an inch or so and stayed up. What are the chances of this?

The chances of the dime are 1/3. This is because the dime is assumed to have landed either on one of the three sides. That is on its edge, rolled an inch or stayed up.

actually, i think your logic is corect, you just forgot that the one side is so much smaller than the others, so the probability is actually wayed by size.
