Most progressives are for progress. Most also don't believe that going back to the days of the almighty corp having all the power over a worker is wrong. They also believe children should not be forced into the labor market. They also believe that preventive medical care can save money and that people shouldn't have to choose between a roof over their heads and medical care.
The progressive approach to healthcare in general is one of prevention, as the saying goes,"An once of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Using this mindset the idea of universal healthcare, aka "Obama care", is that overall cost can be reduced by early detection and lifelong health maintenance. An analogy of our healthcare system as it stands today is as if you never checked your tire pressure in your car, never changed your oil, never replaced your brakes, basically just drove it and nothing more. You can imagine how much more expensive it is to replace your engine or transmission as opposed to the cost of regular maintenance.
