A boat is traveling @10 mph. the stream is flowing @ mph north.what is the velocity of the boat w/ th stream

how fast is the stream flowing? and what direction is the boat going? up stream or down? or straight acorss the stream?

is the boat travelling 10mph relative to the stream? or relative to land?

ok so if the stream is flowing north at 4mph and the boat is traveling with the stream at a velocity of 10mph relative to the stream. the boat is actually traveling 14 mph.

Unless you meant that the boat is traveling 10mph north relative to LAND in which case the velocity of the boat is actually 6mph relative to the stream.

not sure which one you are looking for. These problems are difficult to think about because the boat is moving different with respect to different perspectives!
