In the USA about 80% of the population is Christian. Worldwide there are 2 billion Christians. 1 Billion muslims, almost a billion Hindus, that's 4 billion, that leaves 3 billion others. There are 1 billion Chinese, most of whom are atheist. that leaves 2 billion, there are lots of other religions, but if we say half of the remaining 2 billion are atheists, 1 billion, plus 1 billion Chinese, that makes 2 billion atheists. I guess it's a tie, 2 billion each.
Actually most Chinese are Buddhist! But there is definitely more Christian than atheist. Well, there's a difference in how many people say they are Christian and how many actually 100% beleive. Some just say they are Christian to be accepted or because they come from christian parents. But over all there are more Christians.
Atheism rarely polls higher than 6-8% of the population. In schools of higher education that are state supported, it polls at triple that number. But the average worldwide is less than 10%. China has about 1.5 billion Buddhists and .5 billion Christians. The majority of worldwide Christians, one billion, are Catholics; 1.2 billion are Protestant and the third largest religion is Buddhism.
