Within 50 yards a 22lr or 22 magnum will take him down with a few shots.

often times, the deer is severely wounded and manages to get away, only to die or suffer till it's wounds heal; or to be killed by coyotes and eaten. however, a close well placed shot is often sufficient to kill the deer quickly. hope this helps...:-)

While it may, most states forbid their use for hunting large game animals, simply because you'd need several shots to do so. All concerned hunters prefer a clean kill to wounding an animal and allowing it to suffer.

Not advisable, you would more than likely just wound it and possibly cause it a long slow death!
Use a 30-30, a great gun for hunting deer or a 270,30-06,7mm
243 is a fast gun but with a smaller round, which is fine if your a great shot, a lot of wounded deer out there from poor marksmanship

It will if shot in the right place, however it is illegal to hunt deer with a .22 caliber. By law I think it has to be a .30 caliber or bigger....I personally use a 30.06 or my .44 magnum super red hawk.

Out here, it has to be center fire. So I suppose a 223 would be legal, lot of guys use 270's. still love my '06.

.223 is legal I think.

Rim fire ammo is not allowed anywhere for a clean, legal kill. Unless your a poacher, this is all kinds of wrong. What gives legal hunters a bad name. Keep the 22's for varmint plinking
