If a tree is in a dormant state you would think it would be able to live even if not in soil or water. right?

Report as

Wrong, just because its dormant, doesn't mean it's dead.
Think of a Bear in hibernation, it sleeps most of the time but it still needs to breathe, right?

Nope , not at all. They can die from too much cold and also from not watering in the winter. Even when we sleep, we need proper air and water and would die if we froze to death.

My husband is a landscaper. He gets calls every Spring from people whose trees died during the winter.

When I moved to where I live now, I got a bright red Rhododendron. After three harsh winters in a row it died.
I wish that when I was younger I had been more interested in gardening. Maybe I could've been a landscape designer now. I developed that interest late in life and now I'm not up to the physical difficulties necessary to get there.

Have you heard from Happy days are here for me lately? I thought she would come back but no. I sort of thought of her as a little sister. I hope she's ok.

Me too. I wish I could get out in the garden. My husband has been doing it for 35 years and he's lucky because his health is very good whereas mine became very poor from having rheumatic fever when young . On HappyDays, you can contact her at , and I have to spell it out, but it's...username at g mail dot com. Yes, username is the first part. She left it on here for others to see before she left. But that was a while ago but it should still be the same but maybe not. You could try. I never used it. If you see Mr John Wayne I believe he still talks to her or he was. Yes that was sad what happened .
anyway.

I'll try that. I want her to know that people care about her.

If that doesn't work,'let me know and I will get in touch with. Cerebro and ask him for the latest one for her.

It can live without soil but not without any water at all. Dormant plants do need certain kinds of care or they will die or suffer damage.
Read about bare root roses and how they are cared for that will help you understand.
When plants are dormant that is the best time to transplant or prune them.
