Connect a monitor screen to my mac as a different screen to work on?

Plug in the monitor to the Mac
Go to system prefs then display and uhm uncheck mirror display. I'm not 100% sure but once your in the display settings I'm sure you can figure it out. If you can't i'll check tomorrow and let you know
