There is apparently some sort of email claim circulating that "democrats" started the KKK after the civil war, which while this is technically true in that those that founded it would have been (at that time) affiliated with the Democratic party, it doesn't actually translate very well to the current party's platform. Many of those "southern democrats" later became affiliated with the Republican party. So if you are looking to make it a political issue, be careful where you point fingers. ;)
Nathan Bedford started it in post civil war era. in the beginning it was designed to police a community, to ensure men were responsible to their families. later it morphed into the KKK as we know it today.
Lol are you doing history homework or something or just wondering? During reconstruction, they would terrorize whites that if I can recall the people they terrorize are something about being against slavery? I don't know give me a sec ill look it up for you ;). The klu klux klan and other groups helped democrats take power by terrorizing republic voters
The KKK was formed by white people who hate and fear black people. It was formed to maintain white control over an increasing black population. It used intimidation, voter restriction, redistricting, segregation, and threats of physical violence to maintain a sense of control. You know - just like the republicans keep trying to do today.
