Birds can bleed to death easily. I would take it somewhere to get done. You should always have this powder you can buy to stop the bleeding with anyway. I can't read the name off of the label. Ask an avian vet. The filing is way better than cutting. I have 3 birds. I just thought of this, you need to get those rough abrasive perches that help wear down their nails naturally.
Take it to a vet, I think. Many animals hate having their nails clipped. It will be much easier on you to go to a vet. Also, if her nails are dark, it is very hard to see where the quick is, so you could injure her. Cutting the quick won't kill them, but it may harm your friendship with the bird.
I own an African Grey. Well, he owns me. You can trim your birds talons (nails) if you have experience in doing so or you can buy a book on the type of bird you have and it will give you detailed instructions. You rarely need to take your bird to a bird vet unless they are in contact with other birds outside your home.
