No offence and i'm not grouping or stereotyping, but i've noticed that boys

of adolescent age often times engage in competitive risk taking challenges that would most likely result in injury or worse. why do they need to do this ?

To narrow the gene pool. Don't fret! It's good for our species!

Truth. There are multiple studies of how the brain has not fully developed. The long term consequences of behaviors cannot yet be seen. They don't fully realize how dangerous their behaviors are.

Hi alexis! I think we may be saying the same thing. Brain development is fascinating, and continues much longer than originally thought. :)

Because at that age common sense is at a minimum then add in competitive nature and peer pressure to "fit in" and there a go.

They are boys, and it is their nature. There's no "why" really. I don't think it's stereotyping to admit that men and women are different.

Ok its a male thing, male of any species is always trying to be dominant and aggressive, all animals are the same, and most women like that in a man anyway. All female elephants mostly breed with the biggest and strongest male.

It's just how our brains work. We're just not as scared as girls ;) Sometimes it's just to impress a girl. We want to show our masculinity, bravery, and pure awesomeness. Other times, we want to be the first to do something. And it's just a lot of fun. For example, parkour is fun and mortally dangerous. We do that all the time.

It is hormonal in nature. This is why young men make the best soldiers in terms of actual battle. The strategizers
and commanders will be more mature
men. There are exceptions to this of course.

It could have to do with the idea of personal fable, which is something that all adolescents experience. It means that young people think they're more unique than they actually are; we think we're special. With that, we think that we will always be the exception. Maybe we'll start smoking and think "oh I'll be one of those guys who smokes their entire lives but lives to 80" or start doing dangerous skateboarding moves, and think "I know that people get hurt on skateboards but I'll be careful, so it's ok". Don't worry, you not stereotyping. I think it's a pretty significant characteristic of adolescents.
