When was a 1993 Winchester 44 40 serial # nth1212 made

it has " made in Japan" stamped near the 44 40 mark

Report as

Lever action rifle? That would be a model 1892, which may well have been made as a commemorative or limited edition by Miroku of Japan for Winchester. Probably sometime in the 1970 through 2000 period.

A winchester rifle made in Japan? They made most, if not all, of their rifles here in the US (in connecticuit). Are you sure it doesn't say '.44-.40 Winchester' or something like that? That would mean that the cartrige the gun fires was designed by winchester and was adopted by this japanese gun company that's my guess.

Nope sold out to "Miroku" or something like that.
Not all their models but quite a few now.

Miroku? I've never even hear of them. The only japanese companies i know of are sako and howa. Winchester could have done so much better...
Report as
Wait, sako is finnish.

Sako is Finnish, and what a company they are.
