I'm not planning on eating it Now~Do I let it cool before putting in Fridge( in Hot)?

I've been crock potting this Chili for many Hrs. the vegetables are finally getting el'dentey(sp?) do I wait till the whole Crock&Chili cools before putting it away in the fridge or put it away Hot... I know it can cause temperature issues in the fridge if something so steamy goes in... but I also don't want to contaminate a whole batch of food; if I don't put it away correctly... Thank You* for your advice ...

Always allow food to cool before putting it in your fridge. It's not that the food will spoil, you can damage your fridge by placing too hot a temperature of food, just made jello or pudding etc. inside before cooled down.

I've heard that food spoils if you put it in the fridge when hot, don't know how true that is, which I could help you out more.

You MUST let it cool off first! It will spoil if you don't. Set your clock for a couple of hours from now. Then, get up and put it in the refrig. Take the lid off before you go lie down. It will cool quicker.

Stilltasty.com says it's safe as long as it's in a shallow container.

I used to work at a High School Cafeteria years ago, and all the hot food had to be at room temp. before going in the cooler.

Do you know why? Because of food or frig issue?

After reading info. online for safe food handling, found out you can put your hot food directly in the frig., but if it is large amount, it should be divided into smaller containers. For meats that are whole divide up before cooling. I've always let my my hot foods cool off before refrigerating, now I know it's not so important, although I've been doing it for so long, it'll be hard to break the habit. Lol.
