What is a good brand of hair dye?

I have blonde and brown mixed hair. Never dyed it before unless you count the paint that comes off when you wash it. I was thinking black or dark brown. And is there another brand for the crazier colors? Blue and green and such?

Manic Panic and Splat are both great brands for semi-permanent hair color. I also like Raw Color, it had a super nice odor to it (like candy!) and it has some AWESOME colors like neon orange and green! Of course, if you have multicolored hair, in an airport you are automatically a druggie or terrorist (Long-is story, ask me later lol) but their colors are amazing! For permanent hair color, I've never even used that unless you count hair bleach. But I've heard that the foam colors are really good, though there's actually less liquid foam stuff. It's kinda like whipped frosting, if you buy whipped frosting, you get less frosting than normal frosting because whipped frosting is basically double the original amount (if you have one jar, whip it properly you end up with two jar's worth of frosting, though it is really the same amount) and it is resold at a slightly higher price. That's basically what the foam dye does, it's less dye for more money. But, as I said, I don't use permanent hair dye ever, so I wouldn't know. ^_^

I had the turtquoise(Manic Panic) in a few weeks ago and it turned green, we bleached AND dyed it, you can still see where it was..Not very much but you can! So irritating..My hair still looks great, either way(: But god is Manic Panic hard to get out!! (Found out that green in not my hair color, but crimson obsession(Splat) is an awesome color for me and it is so bright and makes me feel gorgeous. Worth bleaching my hair? Yes.) (:

I agree with the other answers manic panic or raw from hot topic works the best. There is a hair color you get from walmart that is bleach and the odd colors also it works very well. but I am going to tell you from personal experience the best bet when your doing the bleaching out and then coloring is to go to a salon I've dyed my hair 364 times (honest to goodness it's been EVERY color under the sun a coupe times) and over bleaching has made it fall out twice! The hair salon knows how to mix it perfectly and how long to keep it on. Also black is the hardest color to dye back out, you have to grow it out or cut it...Just telling you.

this may have happened because you have a lot of red hidden in the brown. I used clarol ash instead of neutral once, and got purple hair. Clarol told me it was the hidden red with the green and blue that is in an ash color.
Maybe if you had tried dying your hair blue it would have become purple.....

Clarol also told me how to fix my hair so it was close to the color i wanted

If you are looking for a permanent hair color John Frieda Foam Color is the way to go. It covers much better than Loreal and you do not have that very nasty smell left over like you do with Loreal.

I'd have to say splat, its the only dye that will actually work with my hair and it doesn't fade too fast.
