Metaphor and Simile help!

I need a metaphor for an ode to my dog (Australian Shepard) who is full of energy but all I can think of is similes!!! Does it make sense if I say "his legs are sturdy of steel"?????

just say "his legs are steel"

Simile: : using like or as.
Ex: Her eyes twinkle like the stars in the midnight sky.

Metaphor: also a comparison but gives somewhat like an idea of something.
Ex: I carry her image always in my head, its folded and yellowed, and torn at the edge.
Explanation: "I" its continuously thinking of "her"; always in her thoughts, but you get the idea.
